A commercial plaza development in a tourist destination
while maintaining the delicate ecological balance.

A lateritic plateau of 100 acres in area and 60 metres above Panchgani town, the Panchgani ‘Tableland’ is a unique geo-morphological feature of the region.
It’s the most ecologically fragile part of the region. Hence minimal footprint and policy planning was required. For protecting the sensitive zone, restricted horse cart movements, organized pedestrian activity was programmed.

Process

The approach was such that the design lay beneath the ground surface, for no visual hindrance for the birds and ecology.

Concept

Street pattern is the most successful and conventional pattern for shopping and creating a guided movement pattern for visitors. The pattern gives equal exposure to every shop. Small nodes while walking around shopping street adds interest and breaks the monotony and predictability of the street patterns while reaching the interpretation center.
